Preach.Today in school, my principal decided to teach, or shall i say lecture, my AP Government class about the Education Policy in America. From there, he had told our class something that I will always remember for the rest of our life. He told my class that “Music will not get you anywhere in college”. He then corrected his words and said, “I’m sorry, what I meant was music does not matter when it comes to getting into college”. Excuse me? I have never heard something more wrong in my entire life. Obviously, you have not been to a drum corp or marching band show and seen thousands of individuals giving their soul to eight minutes on a field. Obviously, you have never been to a young symphony and seen kids play music you would never be able to play. You don’t think the music we play and the level we play won’t affect an office of admissions taking a second or third or fourth look at our application? You don’t think marching in an internationally known drum corp won’t give you an edge in the decision making process. Music has changed my life and it could change anyone else’s in a second. I would never wish this upon anyone else, but I am glad music never changed your life. You don’t deserve it.
Yes.
